Waves by nickspicsnz

Waves

It's been so hot I wish we lived nearer to a beach. We took Tilly for a walk at Port Waikato a few evenings ago. There were lots of people still in the sea even though it was past 8pm and the sun was going down. I didn't take many photos on 28th so posted this one from 23rd instead just because I like it. I think this looks better on black.
I'm always amazed at the amount of waves you have at your beaches even in mid summer & it's so hot! Do you ever have quiet calm beaches with gentle lapping water? Don't get me wrong I think your waves are amazing but fir a weak swimmer like me I'm put off before I get to the edge of the sea! I stick to the hot pools & just paddle in the sea

@happypat you just need to pick your beach - Hahei on the Coromandel is a calmer option (normally) but the West coast is often like this shot!!!

@happypat There were some great waves here on this evening. I just like to paddle too, but that's because I always think something's going to bite me if I go in the sea rather than because of waves. There are some lovely calm beaches though - one that springs to mind is Cooks Beach.
@sdutoit Thanks Sylvia.
@deliad @phil_howcroft @yorkshirekiwi Thanks very much. I liked the light through the waves that are crashing against the rock. I can see it better when the picture's larger on my PC's screen than it is on 365.

I really like the light and shadow on the water, and the surf splashing against the large rock in the distance.
