This shot isn't cropped or anything but I feel a bit of a cheat because it's taken using Auto. But I was very excited when I saw the results of trying out the zoom on the new camera that hubbie bought me for a combined valentine/anniversary/birthday pressie. This isn't even at full zoom - the full zoom took just the top part of the moon. The camera is a bit more basic than my 3200 but it has a mega 83x zoom. I wanted something that I could use to shoot things at a distance and so my new camera is the poor man's version of a zoom lens, lol!
Happy birthday/anniversary/valentines days! This is way cool and I guess that is because it is a coolpix! Did you use a tripod? The focus is brilliant.
@kiwinanna Thanks Liana. It's actually an early birthday and anniversary present because they're not until April and March respectively but he did slip Valentine's in too so he got all events covered in one go, lol! I did use my tripod to take this because I'm hopeless at holding a camera steady.
Auto is not cheating if so I cheat everyday! I started out with such good intentions of learning how to use my camera only on manual. I have a few lenses etc but in the end I shoot entirely on auto & would be very happy with a fixed lens camera with a great zoom. We bought our son a Cannon bridge type camera with a 50 zoom lens....too big for me though. It's the result that counts & this is a cracker. I would be over the moon ...ha ha ...to get a shot like this! Well done Nick. We are hoping to meet up in Perhas Hamilton Gardens some time when I'm over in NZ. Not sure of the day until I get an idea of our plans but would be great if you could join us! Will post on here when we decide. Andrea from Taupo, Delia from Rotorua, Julia from neat the Waikato basin & might be a couple more.....can't just think of their 365 names! Just for a chat & a coffee, would be good!
Auto is definitely not cheating Auto. It's your camera and whatever works for you.
I just brought the same camera for my partner and I must say that I have an extreme case of zoom envy.
@happypat@deborah63 When I say cheating - that's purely a personal thing not a view on how cameras should or shouldn't be used. It's just that I have been so determined to learn and practice the manual settings on my other camera that using auto again, after a year or so using manual, feels a bit strange and I don't feel so in control of my photos. @happypat Would love to join you for a meet up if I'm free. I'm sure @alinz, and maybe relative 365 newbie @yorkshirekiwi, would like to come along too. @deborah63 The zoom is amazing but I need my tripod to keep the camera steady. @alextheseal Thanks David. I only had the camera on Friday so I'm still excited about the results of the zoom.
@nickspicsnz That would be great Nick. Other 365ers are @julzmaioro @ dide @deliad@andreajoy plus might be others Delia might bring along. The more the merrier! I think a weekend is better for some but I actuall prefer a weekday as I'm nearer Hamilton during the week but will work round it whatever! I have an itinery in the case but am positive my family will help out with organisation so we can meet up. Will see how we go! Am in South Island from 9th to around 19th March & going to meet up with @maggiemae again. We leave NZ on the 31st March.

Enjoy it ... it's your to do with as you wish.

@happypat Hope you had a good trip with no dramas. Look forward to meeting you while you're in NZ if dates/timings work out OK.
