While we were in Rotorua I really wanted to do the Redwoods Treewalk at night when all the lights were on. I'm soooo glad I did it at night because it meant I couldn't see the ground! For some reason I thought it would be solid walkways, not swinging-rope-walkway things. I am not good with heights at the best of times, so having to cross what felt like a million of these flimsy walkways was way outside of my comfort zone! It was pretty seeing all the lights twinkling in amongst the trees though, but, of course, difficult to photograph as I had to do it handheld. My husband was not impressed that we had to queue for over an hour to get onto the treewalk but I thought it was worth it. People were still queuing at midnight!
The shark and the weta are beamed onto the ground and look so real swimming and crawling around.
The lights that hang amongst the trees were made by David Trubridge, a renowned designer based in New Zealand. One of them is really huge and forms part of the walkway so you have to walk through it.
Oh this took me back Nick….I love this walk & have done it in the daytime & at night. Such impressive tall straight trees. I didn’t mind in the daytime as you soon got used to the moving bridges….so worth it? We bought a bread knife for our son in the shop that was so good we bought another the next time we went!
The night time lights were so very pretty. Sounds very busy…it must be the school holidays, we never queued!
