One of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus - Philip - is said to have preached in Greece, Syria, and Anatolia. In Athens, he preached in the neighborhood of Vlassarous, near the ancient agora as the site was once an ancient Greek temple and considered sacred. This is the third construction of the church on this site.
