I've been mulling over this photo for a couple days now... it's a candid, taken on a walk along the Humber on Sunday... this gentleman looked so interesting as he contemplated the river in his Sunday best... somehow I feel the shot is missing something, but I'm still kind of drawn to it... and as today was a washout from a photography perspective, you're getting this one as a filler :)
I'm not seeing anything missing here. You have a fascinating subject that looks quite retro, so the black and white is perfect, especially since he is darker than the background so he really stands out. Your composition is excellent too. If I had to be critical, I'd say I wish his face was a bit clearer. But it is a very intriguing photo.
@lauriehiggins tx Laurie... i know what you mean about his face... he'd been standing still for so long and then just as i clicked the shutter, he moved to take his hat off... in the end, i thought the "taking the hat off" bit was cool, and kind of made up for the fact that you can't quite see his face... :)
Hmmmm, it almost looks like the pose you might see at a cemetery or some kind of memorial. I suspect that spot maybe means quite a lot to him, like it.
What the picture is missing is also what it's adding; the mystery of what he's looking at outside the picture frame; what he's taking his hat off for...
The picture is perhaps a little pale, but the composition is great.
Wonderful capture.....I love the b&w, and you can't help but wonder what he's thinking.....is it something really interesting, or is something more mundane :-)
