Juvenile

My first shot of a juvenile blue jay. I guess even blue jays go through an awkward teenage stage too.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
Oh dear, the juvenile time of life is always the most difficult isn't it. Lovely shot.

Baby and juvenile birds are not very attractive. We were given a nestling Mynah bird that had been found by a neighbors cat. We searched for its nest for hours but finally decided to raise it as we had no success. We named him Yewbie for the initials UB (ugly bird). He was the dearest, funniest little creature. I loved him to bits. He talked all day long. I still miss him.

there are some blue jays who are well aged and going through another awkward season and they're not the flying kind. :-P aces on this, kiddo.

Aren't their heads just ugly until their feathers come in. Male cardinals have black heads until their red feathers come in. Really weird.

Reminds me of the ugly duckling song, this juvenile will soon turn into a real beauty, great capture in lovely detail and colour Nova:)

Thanks to you all for sharing your thoughts and favs on this young one. I thought his head looked kind of prehistoric, which makes sense. Have a great day! :)

His body feathers are quite beautiful and his head does look awkward and funny until those feathers come in...cute capture.
