Oxygen or H2O by olivetreeann

Oxygen or H2O

I had planned to be at the pool this morning to take an H2O shot there, but my car derailed that plan yesterday! So that found me scrounging around the house today for ideas. I finally settled on pouring some water out of the faucet into a clear glass bowl. But with the background being a stainless steel kitchen sink, it translated to a bland picture. Post processing saved the day by adding some HDR effect, playing around with the color adjustment and exposure and topping it all off with a blue tint that was only applied in small dosages. The result reminded me of those beautiful shots of the earth taken from outer space and prompted me to look up this little tidbit: 70% of the Earth's surface is water and 96.5% of that water is in our oceans.
And I think it's about the same proportion in our body. This turned into a beautiful abstract. Very creative approach.

@allie912 Thanks Allison!

LOL I thought at first it was a frog eye

Good processing.

Cool

@httpgeffed Ewww! Thanks Colleen- I think.
@henrir Thanks Henri! It's not the greatest, but it was fun!
@kerristephens Thanks Kerri!

Yes Allison is right.. 70% of our body is water..I'm really impressed with your processing of this water picture.. it's not only beautiful but after reading your caption of the bland picture from thestainless steel sink to come to this colorfur and detailed picture is amazing.

@bruni Thanks Bruni! I think the processing pulled out whatever color was in the reflection of the glass bowl. Then when playing around with the exposure, I was able to give it some more kick. I just dabble with things until I get the result I want or as in this case, get something I like.

Nice photo Ann! And my camera is working now! it's still really junky but hey i got it!! what editing do you use?
October 6th, 2012
Great idea Ann!! Who came up with these words anyway!! lol!
October 6th, 2012
@leahlikesphotography Thanks Leah- I use several different on line sites which are free- Ribbet.com, Picmonkey.com, iPiccy.com and when I really want to have some fun BeFunky.com. I did this one in Ribbet.
@ellimae thanks Ellen! The words are my fault if you don't like them and my fault if you do! I tried to pick words that could be interpreted a number of ways, literal or abstract, seriously or in fun. And just in case I added five substitutes that I hoped were a bit easier to capture in the same way. Of course when you're designing the challenge the natural tendency is to choose things that are easy for you to do, but I try to challenge myself when I pick them out too- today was definitely a challenge since I couldn't get to the pool! I almost used a sub, but thought this up in the late afternoon and decided to give it a go.

Really interesting abstract look.

@nadaa Thank you Nada!
October 6th, 2012
@olivetreeann Thanks Ann! i was just wondering if you googled this list or made them up yourself.! I know i wouldnt be able to do it because i cant even spell have of the words and barley know some of there meanings!! Im sure i will have to use a substitue for a few of them!! I dont get out much and i dont have alot of stuffed animals or real ones for that matter! Thank you for doing these challenges..i really enjoy them! But now i know who to blame the words on ! he he he:)
October 6th, 2012
Wow! it is like a painting you had produced!
October 6th, 2012
@ellimae Don't worry Ellen- I use a dictionary! Oh, and Alia did suggest a couple of them which I included (she chose obtuse- which I had to double check the meaning of and orangutan- a day I will most likely use a sub!). I am not out much either. With no job and none on the horizon, I don't have the luxury of endlessly filling the car with gas to go places. So I stay nearby and try to think creatively with what I have and with the limitations of my p & s. And don't forget- some of the words, like opaque, can be simplified by their definition (i. e. opaque is not see through- it's the opposite of transparent). That might help a little. And don't forget, you can have fun with these. They don't have to all be exactly descriptive of the word. There might be a person you consider to be a teddy bear- you don't have to take a picture of a teddy bear if you don't have one.

@chrismarfil Thank you Chris! At first I was trying to get it sharper, but it wasn't a good enough shot for that, so instead I just kept the slight blur and played around with it.
October 6th, 2012
@olivetreeann Love the framing too.
October 6th, 2012
@chrismarfil Oh thanks Chris! It's what Ribbet calls a "mirror frame". I usually shrink it from the preset size they give it because I don't like it to dominate the picture. I thought it would work well with this shot by keeping the liquid feel in the frame.
October 6th, 2012
@olivetreeann thanks for the info i will try that in the future.
October 6th, 2012
@chrismarfil Ribbet.com is free right now. iPiccy.com is also free and has a mirror frame too.
October 6th, 2012
@olivetreeann Thanks again Ann!

I love how you saved the day! Can I come borrow your sink? So tired of washing dishes in the bathtub...
October 6th, 2012

Very cool. Looks like something in a petri dish at first.
October 6th, 2012
Cool processing.
October 6th, 2012
Lovely capture! I like the colours you managed to bring out - reminds me of the bacteria around hot springs. Looks like you captured oxygen and H2O :)
October 6th, 2012
@dmariewms Thanks Marie! I've been there and I know what that's like! I'd be glad to share the sink with you!
@tanja_1211 Thanks Tanja- I'm doing the Either Or October word list. And just for this week my other album is running the rainbow challenge. After that, I'm leaving it open ended for a while. I want to just be able to post whatever comes my way in at least one album.
@salza Thanks Sally!

Lovely - what a beautiful shimmery metallic effect you've created/brought out. Gorgeous
October 6th, 2012
You are so good at processing. My same object for sundays is supposed to be water and I have a stainless steel sink so I've been playing with similar situations too.
October 6th, 2012
Nicely done. Cool shimmer.
October 6th, 2012
Fantastic.
October 6th, 2012
@filsie65 Thank you Phil!
@pandorasecho Thank you Dixie! I really just play around with it until I get something interesting or that appeals to me. And I don't use anything "fancy" like Photoshop- it's all done on the free websites.
@netkonnexion Thank you Damon!

@vposey Thanks Vickie! It didn't end up the way I'd hoped when I started to process it, but I like the way it turned out.
