December Holiday 11 by olivetreeann

December Holiday 11

We have eclectic musical tastes in our home, which basically means we like a lot of different kinds of music! One artist that has always fascinated Jeff is Matisyahu, so when I heard he would be appearing in our area, I immediately got tickets to give him for Christmas. The concert was last night and it became the subject of my December Holiday Activity shot. What a great concert! Although he does have a band, this concert was billed as acoustic. It featured Matisyahu, his guitarist and he basically came out and sang all night, only breaking for a brief Q & A session. Although my p & s isn't the best camera for concert shots, it did a decent enough job on these shots to give you an idea of what we saw. If you want to hear what we heard, you'll have to check him out on YouTube!

I too like a lot of different music styles, and I must admit, I've never heard of this artist. As I listened to him I was captivated from the very beginning, and the words to that song "One Day" were so powerful and full of hope. What a great message. I must check out some of his CDs. Thanks for the site.

@digitalrn I think you will like his music Rick- it's a very unusual combo of reggae, beat boxing, and Judaica. One of my students had played One Day for me when I was teaching and although Jeff is the one who likes reggae between the two of us, I really liked Matisyahu's style because it changes up. He was first called the Reggae Rabbi because he started out with that look you saw in the video. But as you can see from the concert, he's not sporting that look now. However, he is still deeply devout in his faith and although I don't necessarily agree with everything he believes, I do admire and respect his conviction and integrity. He was very sincere during the Q & A when anyone asked him about his faith. I liked that.
@kerristephens thanks Kerri!

@summerfield Thanks Vikki! It was fine for shots like this, but the close-ups where I used the zoom weren't post-worthy. I wasn't surprised though because I know what this little guy is capable of and concert shots are on the borderline.
