Ocean Grove May 1988

Another picture pulled from the LeFevre archives and one of my favorites. Christopher is 7 years old here and still a bit unsure about the waves. No need to fear though; Dad is there to keep him safe. Believe it or not, the coordinated outfits were not planned, but it sure looks that way! The water looks surprisingly blue in this shot. The Atlantic Ocean is more of a steel blue-gray on most days. Our Just 4 June word today was "water/wet", so those sea-stained jeans fit the bill. As for joy, who wouldn't find joy in seeing a dad and son like this?

This shot was taken in Ocean Grove NJ, one of the Jersey shore's more well-known spots. I have not been there since Hurricane Sandy hit but apparently the town suffered a great deal of damage. Due to the religious nature of the community, the government will not give them relief money. Here is a little history from Wikipedia:

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Ocean Grove is noted for its abundant examples of Victorian architecture. Ocean Grove was founded in 1869 as an outgrowth of the camp meeting movement in the United States, when a group of Methodist clergymen, led by William B. Osborn and Ellwood H. Stokes, formed the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association to develop and operate a summer camp meeting site on the New Jersey seashore. By the early 20th century, the popular Christian meeting ground became known as the "Queen of Religious Resorts." The community's land is still owned by the camp meeting association and leased to individual homeowners and businesses. Ocean Grove remains the longest-active camp meeting site in the United States.
Awesome shot

@taffy Thanks Taffy! Even though he is full-grown and has a little one of his own now (and number 2 due in 3 weeks!) Dad is still the go-to guy for advice and "how to" information. He's the one that lives in Tecumseh.

@dakotaburns Thank you Donald! Oh, yes, they're characters alright! lol

@prttblues Thanks Bev! We had a great time that day- even watched the sun go down over the old Victorian homes.

@digitalrn Yes, many communities are bouncing back with the FEMA money but the government will not give it to Ocean Grove.

Thank you Dione, Laraine and Allison! It's one of Jeff's favorite shots on fatherhood. We also used it in Christopher's wedding montage. Very sweet memories all the way around.
