I confess- I could possibly be an ice cream addict. It doesn't take much to get me to eat it, and I will never give it up. I like it too much. I am grateful that someone at some point in human history figured out how to make the stuff- especially the Mint Chocolate Chip variety (although there are a couple other flavors that run a close second!). After a long delay in traffic that was at a stand-still on my way home from Michigan, I saw these clouds in the sky and thought they aptly fit the word for the day "ice cream". They also brought to mind this song:
Both Sides Now
Bows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's cloud's illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
When every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughin' when you go
And if you care don't let them know
Don't give yourself away
I've looked at love from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say, "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way
But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've c hanged
But something's lost, and something's gained
In living every day
I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all
I realize it's sort of a sad song, and actually I don't really feel this way but, every time I see beautiful clouds, I always think of this song!
Words and Music by Joni Mitchell
(But I always remember the Judy Collins version- see comment to Bev below if you want the link to hear her singing it.)
I LOVE that song! It is featured in two of my favorite movies too...Life as a House (such a touching movie) and Love Actually. The song lyrics go great with your pastel clouds.
actually, joni mitchell composed the song, but judy collins made the first commercial recording of it for which she won a grammy. funny, but every time partner and i drive around and we see beautiful clouds, i always sing that portion of the song. beautiful colours on your clouds!
@summerfield Thanks Vikki- I saw the posting of Joni's version on YouTube when I looked up the Judy Collins version for Bev but didn't have time to give it a listen. Maybe tomorrow when Jeff isn't asleep (poor guy is beat from working in the hot muggy weather this week). I was too lazy to go get my album with the song so I just copied the lyrics off the internet and that site credited the song to Judy. lol I always sing this song when I see the clouds too.
