I finally got to the reading portion of our book club this week and must confess I was a little disappointed in it. Perhaps this was because the instructional part was more technical and less artistic than our previous Patterson book. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but when you are working with a camera that only has very basic technical freedom, it's hard to see how the information applies.
However, I did take some of the information and rather than understanding it in terms of my camera, I applied it to the subject itself. In this shot I noticed how the light coming in from the sliding glass doors (subdued light as it was snowing AGAIN!) affected both the texture of Jeff's sneakers and the laces on them. It not only outlined their respective shapes, but actually gave them the appearance of volume too- especially the laces.
I would love to tell what I did here, but I forget!! What I can tell you is that even though the sneakers were black and white, I still converted the shot to black and white. It made the whites whiter and the blacks blacker. I also did do some burning in the upper left hand corner as it was just a bit overexposed.
PS - I have loaded some more photos into my Year 1 album and set them to restricted. Can you see them in your feed? I hope you can't. I did make some I posted a couple of days ago public so those might show up. I just want to know I'm not bombarding people. thanks!
Wonderful perspective. Great textures! I am finding this book a bit more difficult than the previous book. I read and reread the book. Then, I try to apply what I learned to my bridge camera (which only shoots in JPEGs).
Thank you one and all! So excited to see this was featured on the TT for a bit! I'm entranced with the Olympics tonight. I'll be back to viewing and commenting more seriously tomorrow!
@olivetreeann I uploaded photos through January 2011. If you don't see them in your feed then it works! I will bring them back slowly so not to flood feeds.
@fullcircle Thanks Cindy! You know, it's just helped me to focus on what I am able to do with this camera and also what I can do in post processing rather than the camera itself. So, I guess it's good.
