I am switching the words up today as I was unable to get an adequate shot which I felt depicted "peace", so I hopped over to tomorrow's word and hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to post a peaceful shot!
The gal in the center here, looking straight at the camera is my grandmother (Dad's mom). Looks like her twin sister was getting into a little trouble there with Mom! It won't be long before I get to see my own family, but for now, some of these family archive shots serve well as fill-ins for me.
And thanks to all of you for the great comments and views! So to answer some of your questions and observations:
Yes, it's a great family memory- although the only three I actually remember from my childhood are my grandmother, her older sister and vaguely her twin.
The original photo was fairly sharp for its age. This was probably taken somewhere around 1917 as I have other pictures with my grandmother looking to be about the same age that are marked with that year. But I did sharpen it some more and clone out the specks of dust and spots from time in post processing after I scanned it into my computer.
And yes, I do have all their names thanks to my Aunt Peg who wrote them on the back of the copy she gave to me. However, I don't remember them all off-hand. My great grandfather's name was Joseph, my great grandmother was Emma. My grandmother was Margaret, her twin was Marion, and their older sister was Helen. It's the sons that I don't remember and would have to pull out the family archives to find their names- but I honestly don't ever remember meeting them although I may have.
As I worked on "dressing up" this shot, I was really struck by how much fun they were having while this shot was taken and I thought, "Wow- my great grandmother really seems to have had a fantastic sense of humor!" I've never been able to answer those "If you could meet someone who died before you were born, who would it be?" questions, but now I think I can!
