Danielle and Jeff by olivetreeann

Danielle and Jeff

The Pocono Photo Club had a great program tonight. Two of our members who have a traveling photography studio brought in their backdrops and lights and set them up so that we could try out portrait photography. This is certainly not what I'm comfortable taking, but it was fun to experiment! Our two models were so much fun to work with. Danielle is the daughter of the photographers who brought in the works. She is going to be studying dance in college. Beauty and grace must be her middle name! And some of you may recognize the other one- my husband Jeff who graciously stepped in for my niece Katie who was supposed to be our second model but had to bow out when she was called into NYC for an audition. As you can see, we shared a lot of laughs! More photos to come as I sort through the ones that are successful and get rid of the ones that aren't!
That's a dynamite portrait, Ann. My favorite part is that black line inside the frame, and how the figures are in front of it. When I grow up, I am going to learn how to do that.

@aikimomm Thanks Phoebe! It's very easy actually. First I put the frame on the picture and then I just erase the part that is over them (or whatever object I want to stick out). Easy-breezy.

Hmmm, sounds easy, but I don't even know how to "erase"! Let alone how to do that black inner line in the first place.

@aikimomm Believe me- if I can figure out an editing program, you can figure out an editing program! The one we have here- Picmonkey is a good place to start (although it doesn't have this frame). The one I have on my computer (with this frame) is Smart Photo Editor. I am just not convinced I need to jump on the Photoshop band wagon yet. I definitely don't want the one you have to pay for monthly, but I am finding that I can do a lot of the same things in my program (if I poke around and find them) that are in PS and mine was a fraction of the cost. As far as the black line- I choose the frame and the computer puts it on. I don't draw it in, if that's what you're thinking. I know there are some folks that know how to manipulate the picture and the program to accomplish their effects, but that's not me. I find the effect that makes the picture look the way I want it to, apply the effect and let the computer do the manipulating.
@777margo Thank you Margo!
@colleenbrown88 Thank you Colleen! I could have left it going all the way around but I felt it was distracting across the guitar.
@janetb Thank you Janet! I am usually more of a candid shooter so this was out of my comfort zone and I had no clue as to what settings to use, so I just took some shots and hoped for the best! I should have asked someone for instruction, but it completely escaped me at the time!

Love this! I cannot pinpoint what it is but something keeps drawing me back to it.

@salza Thank you Sally! What I like about it is the off-center positioning of Danielle and Jeff. Most folks were placing them dead-center, but I liked how the two of them anchored the guitar neck and the easy pose between them.

@nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole!
@radiogirl Thank you Kathy! The back drop was provided by Danielle's parents- both excellent photographers. I added a little extra brilliance in post processing but it was pretty white to begin with.
