Wild June 1 by olivetreeann

Wild June 1

I'm not sure what kind of duck this is because after searching through three different bird books, I didn't find one picture that truly matched it!

For the 30 Days Wild Challenge.
Nice capture I like its green beak.

Wonderful detail and light on the mystery duck. I love his little curly tail feathers.

@wendyfrost Thanks Wendy!
@louannwarren Thanks Lou Ann!
@littleconnie Thanks Connie! I thought those would be a great identifying mark. Not a single picture with them on any duck in my books!
@grammyn Thanks Katy!

Nice shot. probably a female or juvenile mallard. They don't have the typical green heads.

He is really pretty.

@randystreat Thanks Kathy! I was beginning to suspect an immature Mallard the more I look at the body.
@henrir Thank you Henri!

Hubby says he thinks it definitely is a drake and not a duck due to the beak colour, flanks and tail curls. He is almost sure it is a mallard inter-bred with other 'tame' ducks e.g. shelduck, Aylesbury etc. Hope that helps.

Lovely capture, great colour on the water and I think the ripples add to the texture.

@mandygravil Thanks Mandy and thanks to Hubby for the ID! It definitely has the look of a Mallard, but those curly feathers at the end and the lack of the distinctive green spots really threw me off.
