I was in a deep sleep but something didn't feel right. A loud noise seemed to be droning in the background and as I started to come out of my slumber I realized there were lights flashing through the window. I got up and took a peek through the curtain and this is what I saw! The "smoke" is not really smoke- there was a patchy fog rolling through at that moment- but the firemen on the roof were very real! They were up there checking on the chimney. I guess our neighbor did not clean their stove pipe of creosote before they started burning in their woodstove because all the windows were open as if they'd had smoke come into the house. Thankfully I didn't see any evidence of a fire and when the trucks pulled away the house seemed to be in tact. And more importantly- no injuries. It was an exciting way to start the day albeit way too early for my liking!
Aren't you glad it wasn't a fire you woke up too. what are people thinking to light a fire not not clean up their stove pipe. good thing the firemen got there fast.
@bruni Thanks Bruni- that would not happen here as Jeff cleans out the whole entire stove pipe and stove long before we start burning. These folks have moved here from NYC. They really know nothing about living in the country. I'm just glad none of them were hurt.
Thank you Taffy, Babs, Haskar, Kathy, Allie, CC, Helen, Carole, Dione, Joyce, Tremerryn, Helen and Kathy! Yes, everything seems quiet now and no more visits from the fire department. Poor folks- I just don't think they really know what they're doing when it comes to wood burning!
Made quite a good local news shot though!
Thank you Nicole, Jo, Maggie, Joan, Lynn, Marilyn, Kathy, Chris, and Lou Ann. It seems very quiet there today- so they must be reco-operating.
