Another rescue from the archives for the One Week Challenge. Swallows at the nature reserve. Further ID and more info to come...
Tonight the winds and damp weather have done in my joints and I'm off to sit with the heating pad and some rooibos tea!
More info on Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area:
The Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area covers 6,000 acres of land in Lancaster and Lebanon counties. It is managed by the Pennsylvania Game Commission who oversees its fields, lakes and ponds. Residents of PA and visitors can enjoy hiking, birding and of course photography but no camping in any season of the year. A lake created in the 1970's by the building of a small dam attracts up to 100,000 snow geese every year. Swallows, Bluebirds, a number of different duck species, pheasants, hummingbirds, many different amphibians and reptiles as well as butterflies migrate through or nest here throughout the different seasons of the year.
oooh! i love rooibos tea. i also have to draw from my recent archives for photo for today. it's really bad when you can't meet your own challenge with new photos. but the thing is i get to view those photos that would otherwise take me months before i get to look at them. very nice composition here, ann. aces!
Very nice capture of the swallow; so interesting to see him perched there! I've never seen a wire cage around a bird house ...I wonder now if that might help keep predators out of my bluebird house.
I just googled rooibos tea and I have heard of red bush tea before from reading the No 1 ladies detective agency books by Alexander McCall Smith. A great series.
Love Rooibos tea especially with a hint of vanilla or with lemon and honey (no milk added). I have the added bonus that it grows just the other side of our mountains! Sorry to her that you are suffering with joint pains, I hope that your warm weather arrives soon.
@summerfield Thanks Vikki! Well, the whole week is from the archives for me- I'm looking forward to the warmer days when I will actually have the motivation to get out of the house and photograph again.
@dsp2 Yes, I think that's what it's for- also to keep out interloping birds like Cowbirds too. The opening is big enough for the swallows but too small for them. It's hard to see it here, but it's only open in the very front.
@littleconnie I had forgotten it was also called Red Bush Tea. It does have a slightly red tint to it when brewed.
@louannwarren@randystreat It does help lessen the irritation and swelling. It doesn't absolutely take the pain away, but I'd rather have a cup of the tea then pop asprin or Advil.
@salza I use the Celestial Seasonings version which has Madagascar vanilla in it. And I have finally weaned myself off of milk in my tea. Even though I wasn't using very much, not having it in there has made a difference. And I sweeten it with local honey- so good for combatting the allergies!
Thanks to one and all for your views and comments! My joints are not as achy today- the weather has warmed up a bit and is staying there so that helps. Your support of my project means a lot to me! Thanks again.
I have never heard of rooibos tea before. Amazing what new things you hear of on this site.
