Open Wide Sam! by olivetreeann

Open Wide Sam!

Grammy, "What would you like for lunch Lucy and Sam? We have pb & j, tuna fish and ham and cheese to make sandwiches with."
Sam, "We can make our own sandwiches."
Lucy, "Yeah! We can make ham, tuna and cheese sandwiches!"
Sam, "Yeah- ham, tuna and cheese sandwiches!"
Grammy, "Ham, tuna and cheese???? You put all three of them together?"
Sam, "Yeah!"
Lucy, "Yeah! And we put lettuce on it too!"
Grammy, "Are you sure you put tuna with ham and cheese? Are you sure it's not tuna OR ham and cheese?"
Lucy "No, we put ham, tuna and cheese all together."

Grammy is NOT convinced- especially since she's never seen said combo served at Sam and Lucy's home when she's visited there. NONE- THE- LESS she decides it's a perfect time to pull the "spoil" card and let them do what they want! So she lays out a "buffet" so the grands can "build their own sandwich". When Gampy comes in to have lunch with them they proudly tell him how they made their own sandwiches (and the above dialogue is repeated with Gampy!). We weren't sure how they were going to manage these monster sandwiches, but surprisingly they finished them!!
Kids eat the weirdest things! LOL! Cute pic.

Just great that they are not picky eaters. A good wholesome sandwich!
April 24th, 2018
And he looks like he loves it too :)

LOL - Love the story behind the photo. And what a photo - those eyes!! :)
April 24th, 2018
Love your story. Sam is proud of his sandwich, you can tell!
April 24th, 2018
Wow. What a good portrait and lovely eyes

Such a funny story! So like kids to try and gross out the Grammy. I love this full on shot of Sam taking his first bite!
April 24th, 2018
Cute. Great to allow them a bit of independence. Maybe it wasn't so hot, but how else would they ever know.
April 24th, 2018
well, you'd have been more surprised if they said tuna, ham and cheese with peanut butter all together between 2 slices. :-D
April 24th, 2018
Great capture better to have strange combinations than being too fussy
April 24th, 2018
Fun shot. Ask them if they have ever had a peanut butter hamburger! I did this weekend. Had to try it! Actually pretty good!
April 24th, 2018
those eyes say it all but I love the narrative too. They will probably remember the time you let them do this for ever!

@homeschoolmom @helenhall Thank you so much for the favs Lisa and Helen!

@onewing @nicolecampbell @30pics4jackiesdiamond @motherjane @gilbertwood @robz @louannwarren @mave @grammyn @randystreat @summerfield @wendyfrost @aglennc @helenhall

Thank you one and all for the views and humorous comments. If it had been really gross I probably would have said no- but why not let them experiment a little. And they did eat them- so I'm glad they had fun with it. (And their dad later confirmed that they do not have tuna, ham and cheese sandwiches at home even though the two of them swore they did! Aren't they funny?!)

@olivetreeann Fifty years ago my children persuaded their Gran that I let them have ice cream and chips!!
April 24th, 2018
@olivetreeann that makes you an exceptionally good Grammy to bring out that "spoil"card for them!
April 24th, 2018
It's okay to spoil them and let them make their own sandwiches...no matter how odd a combination.
April 24th, 2018
@mave I actually had a friend in college that wouldn't eat ice cream without potato chips on top. You go Gran!

@grammyn That's what Grammies are for!

@henrir If their Dad had said anything I would have reminded him about the time he came home from camp and bragged that his friends had dared him to put all sorts of odd things in his oatmeal at breakfast and eat it, which he did. But, he didn't say anything, just shook his head and laughed at their antics.

@kjarn Thanks Kathy! I don't know if I'd put them together, but my grand kids had a blast doing it and they ate it so a win-win to me!
