This shot is from my second trip to Israel back in 2002. It's hard to believe 19 years have gone by since I was there! This picture was originally shot with a very inexpensive point and shoot that had the capability to do panoramic shots. The original was somewhat grainy so it didn't translate that well into a nice sharp black and white. However, I just didn't feel like searching forever for a black and white yesterday! LAZY!! So I decided to process this anyway. The results weren't too bad. I just added a little texture into the otherwise bland sky.
This Roman aqueduct runs along the Mediterranean coast in Ceasarea Maritima. It's quite amazing. You used to be able to go up on top of it, but I'm not sure they'd let you do that now. They were an ingenious method of bringing fresh water from the mountains to lower elevations using gravity as the "power". Unfortunately (and unbeknownst to them) lining the duct system with lead was not a good idea!
Thanks with sharing this information. I've never been to Israel and didn't know there were aqueducts there. It stands to reason, though, since the Romans were there so long.
This is needs to be viewed on black. The PoV is very striking. The Romans were amazing engineers and the construction has really stood the test of time.
