To get more than one X, Lucy used both light sticks. She turned them on, then put them behind her back. I then opened the shutter (bulb setting on manual). She turned around, stood in one spot for 10 seconds then turned around so that the light would not be seen by the camera. She took a few steps, turned towards the camera and repeated the process. I wasn't sure if she'd been in the frame for the third X so I had her do another. In review, we saw that she'd been in the frame after all, but I liked the double X at the end and kept it instead of doing the shot all over again.
you have been having great fun with Lucy and she has been having great fun with you - and learning a lot. She is sure to have an interest in photography for life! Great experiment and results.
Thank you Diana, Lou Ann, Brian, Beryl, Milanie, Katy, Helen, Wing Hong, Diane, and Hannah!
@wh2021 This may look complicated, but it isn't really. They must be taken at night in a dark spot where there are no other lights. The camera is set on Bulb, and on a tripod. The shutter is opened and the light turned on and the pattern is written in the air. For more than one spot like this one, the light is doused between each X, OR, a piece of black cardboard is placed in front of the open shutter while the next spot is set up. When you're done with your writing, you close the shutter.
