I love the dry stone walls that you see in Yorkshire with little barns in some of the fields. We were driving from Reeth to Hawes and stopped in a lay by with a fabulous view down into the valley. Lots of fields were full of buttercups. I am always amazed at the strange shape of fields you see. I wonder how it was decided who had which piece of land and what shape it was.
@pixiemac Thanks Sarah!! I love all the little towns and villages through the dales. Hawes was very crowded today so we will go back in the week to the cheese factory. Lovely!!
This is so lovely! You do not see farms like this in Canada. Fences are wood or wire, but rarely stone. There must be a reason (known to some long ago farmer, perhaps) for the shapes of the fields. Great photo.
Really like how you've captured the shape of the fields - yes the are fascinating. I always love the dry stone walls too. Such time and skill given to build them.
Love the Hawes valley with all the field houses and stone walls. My husband thinks the walls were built with kinks and dog legs in them to maximize shelter for the sheep from winds from different directions.
