Finally the rain stopped today so we took Finlay to the local reservoir for a walk. It was lovely to be out in the lovely fresh air - not cold at all!! Finlay had to stay on the lead as there were lots of ducks and geese at the waters edge and he would have been chasing them. You can see he is carefully watching all the action on the water.
I was trying out my 17-40mm lens today to see if it was wide enough for my Chicago trip. I did get some vignetting at 17mm which I have cropped out of the shot. WA lenses are difficult to get used to as you really need some interest right up close. I bought this lens when I went to Bass Rock to see the Gannets and it was a fabulous lens for the birds flying close to the boat. Not sure about it as a landscape lens.
I have been really busy these last few days entertaining. We seem to have done lots of eating and drinking!! I am quite pleased it's over for another year!! I am so far behind with comments - I will try to catch up in the next few days.
This is effective -- Finlay providing the foreground interest, and the clouds and lines draw me into the scene. I think this should work for city photography -- you won't have quite the distortion, but most of the time it should be fine. You might look into renting a super wide for the fun of it for the week. You could have it shipped to my house if that helps and if you don't want to own one before trying it out.
Great shot and nice in monochrome. It's nice to see Finlay again and you have obviously not had the lovely weather we have had today and yet you are not far away. Fav
@taffy I think I will be buying a super wide lens and I am reading all the reviews to try to decide which one will be best for me. How funny Taffy we have just turned TV channel over and Frank Sinatra is singing Chicago (my kind of town). I think it will definitely be "my kind of town"!! LOL!!
Love how Finlay is the central interest here, and is so beautifully lit. The clouds are extraordinary. I have a 10-22mm Canon lens, and love it for wide angle.
Lovely capture of the ever watchful Finlay Pam. Did you get an answer on the WA Sigma you were playing with and its ompatibility with your full frame 5D?
@terryliv Thanks Terry. That Sigma lens was for a crop sensor camera. I was using my 350D when I bought it - years ago. I have given it to Barb who has the Canon entry level DLSR. Not that she is ever likely to use it!!
