10th December 2015 - Shaped Bokeh

I finally worked out how to get shaped bokeh - don't have your lens wide open!! This was a quick shot and as you can see the bokeh is not circular which is what you get when your lens is wide open. This is a work in progress!!

Finally worked out how to get the hexagon/octagon shaped bokeh. More work to do to get a good image - not many lights around!!

Cool...it's fun learning about bokeh shapes, etc. and what bokeh actually means (as in soft background). You just reminded me to find my kit!

@taffy yes I suppose it would be easier to get the shapes using the kit. I just thought it was interesting that you got different shaped specular highlights if you used any other setting than wide open which gives you a perfect circular shape.

Have you tried bokeh by holding cut out shapes over you lens.

I see that you used f8, so already I have learnt something new. I will have to try this. I wonder if it has something to do with the blades in the lens too. Excellent shot.

Great information.....I had no idea you could get different bokeh shapes by changing the aperture.....I do have a kit for my LB that gives me different shapes....must dig that out!
