Lovely shot, Pam. It's far too early for him to be thinking of nesting. However don't give up hope as I have had them turn up in the winter and sometimes they have stayed around through spring/ summer presumably to breed.
I don't know if you know this, but it's only in recent years that you would see a Blackcap in the winter. They used to be just a summer visitor.
There are various schools of thought on why this might be happening, but global warming / climate change seems to be playing second fiddle to the simple fact that these days more people feed the birds through the winter. Why fly south if theres food waiting for you everyday ?
Plus if you stay here, you get first pick of the best breeding sites.
Keep your eyes open later in the year, because they are more secretive when they don't need the feeders.
