17 Century Aisled Barn by pcoulson

17 Century Aisled Barn

Unfortunately I was not able to get inside to photograph its construction,
The name derives from the aisled halls of the Saxons and the stone-built aisled buildings of the Roman's. Aisled timber framed barns are the carpenter's equivalent of the medieval cathedral and reached a high level of skill and sophistication.
What a lovely old building. Was the raised area and steps used for putting milk/cream cans out for collection?

Really cool. So the steps must have helped people get onto their horses and into carriages?

What a fabulous building. I wonder if our modern day buildings will still be around as long as this one has been.

Really neat architecture. I would love to see the inside. It is in really great condition. Is it still in use. It may be a museum.
