Faux Colour Image

This image is posted for Jorlam @jorlam for her critique only no need to comment,
Jorlam this is typical of the processed IR images I have managed to date. what do you think please
I have placed the both on my Extras Album so you can flick between the colour and monochrome images
Peter, you need to have the sun behind you - so it is illuminating anything you wish to record.. your trees/water are dull because they are in shade. the colours are fine - it is only the lack of direct sunlight which is missing.. Go back to my shot.. again the shadowed areas are dull and lifeless but the areas which are lit directly are fine.
look at the parts of your image where the sunlight is actually touching.. see how bright they are.. see how they glow compared to those in the shade.. we cannot avoid all shade but must strive to eliminate as much as possible..
this was what i tried to stress the day we met in Greenhead Park.. this is why NIR photography works only in bright sunlight.
Golden hours are wasted on NIR as is the blue hour too..

DIRECT strong sunlight is the enemy of regular photography but a friend to those who use NIR, but keep it at your back.. a different mind-set, a different way of working and processing.. a totally different way of seeing and presenting your world.. a unique view which cannot be repeated.

this is why i take only one or other of the cameras out with me. Different mindsets are required, i would confuse myself (even more) by trying to do both..

so sorry it was long-winded and i hope you do not think i was too harsh.. i am trying to help.. when i started i had no help, it was quite a struggle and i am, like you, still learning..

@jorlam Not at all its all good advice and useful knowledge, clearly I'm not starting with a correctly taken image, no wonder I was struggling, as my school reports often said Peter try's hard but could do better, now armed with your valued knowledge come the next bright sunny day I will be out there putting it to the test, thank you so much Jorlam you advice is appreciated:)

@onewing Thank you for your comment and fav. Babs, as you can see Jorlam @jorlam is helping me with advise on the wonders of infrared photography through our 365 project images, clearly I'm getting it wrong to start with just doing the simple thing of standing in the correct place to take the shot, but with my new found knowledge I will get there, lol:)

I absolutely love this shot!!The blue is quite a surprise - I hadn't seen an IR shot with color that I liked, but this one has a very calming feel to it.

Curiously, do you have an IR filter on your camera? A specifically IR camera? Or are you just post-processing in IR?

@shesnapped Thank you for finding the time to comment Ashley its appreciated, to answer your question I had my 4 year old Sony A77 camera converted the sensor was replaced with a 665nm filter that records infrared, I did have to do channel swapping in Photoshop to achieve this result, I have also posted another IR image using this camera see link https://365project.org/pcoulson/365-4/2017-08-15
