Hall Place by peadar

Hall Place

Hall Place has featured in my 365 projects regularly (if infrequently). Originally built in 1537 for wealthy merchant Sir John Champneys, Lord Mayor of the City of London, the building was extended in 1649 by Sir Robert Austen (1587–1666), another wealthy City merchant, who added a second wing built of red bricks, doubling the size of the house. Located in south-east London, it has over the past 20 years been well maintained and developed by the Local Authority with more than a bit of help from the National Lottery "Heritage Lottery Fund"

Here we see the entrance facade of the 17th century wing, caught in a rare moment of sun and blue sky this morning.
How impressive - love the archway. What is it used for now Peter?

@fbailey Felicity, it's a local historic amenity with gardens, museum, cafe, butterfly house, pub/restaurant, glasshouse and much else. Well worth a visit if you are anywhere nearby.

It's a strong looking house. Love the leading line along the pathway and the little teaser through the archway.
