Pennine dam by peadar

Pennine dam

I've been in Manchester the past few days, and this afternoon travelled back over The Pennines to my temporary base in Calderdale. I passed the Booth Wood Reservoir and dam, which was built in the late 1960's and provides water to Wakefield and district. It's in quite a dramatic setting, made even more so by the snow on the hills. If you look closely you can see traffic on the M62, which must be one of the most exposed motorways in England.

It's not the best quality image, but I was shivering so much in the cold wind I'm surprised it turned out even this passable.

Many thanks for all of your recent comments and favs, all very much appreciated.
Impressive statement it is.

Agree, impressive capture
I can just picture you struggling in the cold for the perfect shot

Shivering is not the best for taking pictures, you did remarkably well!

It does look very exposed and cold.

Great composition, looks really cold...

Very nice, Peadar. It transmits all the sense of cold you are describing. I like the contrast between the rough hill above and the shiny water (ice) below. Fav

Hope there was something warm waiting at the end of the journey!

A bleak landscape this time of year. Nice to see the reservoir full. A nice shot!

A very interesting picture. I look from left to right and diagonally and come back again.

The patterning of the dam wall makes for a neat contrast
