Today I took photos of flowers, the thermometer reading 93 degrees (34 C), some cyclists, and some other summery subjects...but I'm going with this shot of Harper at the 'Spray'ground in the park (taken a week or so ago) because nothing says "summertime" like a kid and water. :) Hope everyone is having a lovely day!
@bpaquette Thanks, Barbara! Harper loves sprinklers too ~ as well as pools, the ocean, lakes, bathtubs, water tables, plain ol' hoses...I think she's part mermaid. :)
@girlie I'm still surprised that I didn't know that the Australian winter is based on the calendar and not astronomical occurrences. I had to research that and the only reason for it I could find was because in the early days of the Colony the NSW Corps changed from their summer to their winter uniforms at the beginning of the month. I thought maybe it was because you Aussies are an independent bunch and just wanted to be different...and that might actually have a little something to do with it too. Bundle up and enjoy your cooler days!
@judithg@happypat Hoping that the sun starts putting in an appearance over your way soon! I wouldn't mind arranging a swap of a few of our hot, dry days for some of your cooler, wet ones.
@peggysirk I believe South Africa begins and ends its seasons in the same way we do, by the calendar on the 1st of the relevant months: 1 September, 1 December, 1 March and 1 June. It's surprising how often we notice that the actual weather makes a definite change very close to the beginning of our calendar seasons. I think back in the early days of the Colony, the British also marked their seasons in the same way, which is probably why it's hung over here.
