My week’s leave started on Saturday with the clearing the dining room of as much furniture as I could and moving the table and sideboard into the centre.
Then began the process of removing the wallpaper, gently, very gently. This was the first room we decorated, back in 2006 and I wallpapered directly onto the paint that the builders had used. Thin paint. I mean REALLY thin paint. I know now that this was a schoolboy error of immense proportions.
The removal of the wallpaper removes strips of paint, leaving gauges in the wall. which you cannot paint of wallpaper over. (We had the entire lounge re-plastered a few years ago because of it). You can see what I mean in the window.
Here the room is stripped of paper, and I’m about to don a face mask, take my Bosch electric Mouse sander and basically sand down the walls. Last time I did this, I came out of one of the bedrooms after four hours looking as white as a ghost.
Oh my! What a task. I always heard you could steam wallpaper till the glue basically dissolved, making it fall off the wall. Too good to be true I’m sure.
@louannwarren I used a steamer in the lounge. It decimated the paint and plaster (it was far too aggressive). Now use simple warm water and a scraper (and patience)
oh removing wallpaper is a task isn't it! well done, it's going to be so well worth it when done, but at this stage you wonder if you are mad that's for sure :)
