This crow is hurt; it can't stand on both legs and can't fly. It spent all of today hopping around the garden, calling out to its flock and, on a couple of occasions, it was joined by what I took to be its mate.
I have called the RSPCA, only to listen to recorded voice telling me how important my call is to them, for around 30 minutes before hanging up and not actually speaking to a human. They replied to my Twitter message telling me to capture the bird and take it to a vet. Not going to happen, it is one very very upset bird when you try to get near it. We go on holiday tomorrow for a week and I am guessing that it will be dinner for a local cat or even the Sparrowhawk should he come a calling
Nature is cruel
Brought to mind a song from the 1970s A Star is Born film with Kristofferson and Streisand
Beggar standin' on the corner sing your song
Sing it for a dime
Bring them all the pain you carried down the line
Your music's flyin' post their ears
Goin' through your troubles for the herd to follow
The out of tune ravings of the crippled crow
Movin' down the ladder slow
Where your friends on knee will help you
And the cup o' tin you carry
Is just a ticket to get you in
Beggar standin' on the corner dry your eye
You're tiring now
The tears you're tastin' now are only salty time
Your music's lasted through the year
Goin' through your troubles for the herd to follow
The out of tune ravings of rhe crippled crow
Movin' down the ladder slow
Where your friends on knee will help you
And the crown of thorns you're wearing
Is just a ticket to get you in
The out of tune ravings of the crippled crow
Moving down the ladder slow
Where your friends on knee will help you
The out of tune ravings of the crippled crow
Moving down the ladder slow
Where your friends on knee will help you
He looks pleadingly at you , it is so sad - nature can be cruel and the lyrics bring a lump to my throat ! - on a brighter not , enjoy your holiday and bring back great photos to share with us !
yep I immediately heard that song in my head! sad to know your wildlife rescue is so poor - mind you ours is all volunteer run, but someone would have come out to at least assess him :(
