I understand this window has a biblical reference. It was installed in the church at Hinton Ampner in 1970. The lady who served me my sandwich in the café directed me to it and told me that Ralph Dutton commissioned it as a result of the fire which destroyed his home in 1960. He lovingly restored the house and bequeathed it to the National Trust.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Gorgeous windows! The biblical reference is from Exodus 13 - God led the Israelites out of enslavement in Egypt with a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of smoke by day.
Thank you both for your comments. See my comment above (11th one down!) with ref - not too sure about the link with the fire which destroyed Ralph Dutton's house at Hinton Ampner. If you click on my link you can see the other window in the church, which represents the Pillar of Cloud - not quite so dramatic.
