This shot came up on the screen saver on the computer today which made me think of posting it for throwback-Thursday.
It was taken by Ray as he walked the South Downs Way with his friend, Bob, a few years back. I've processed it a bit and given it a frame - in order to lay claim to it in some way.
This section of the walk is at Beachy Head and the flowers and crosses remember those who have found final solace by jumping off the cliffs.
The South Downs Way is 100 miles long and Ray and Bob walked it one summer in day-long 'shifts'. The furthest they walked in one day was 17 miles.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Oh dear that looks bad....a rather sad place for all those too weary to carry on......WE often hear of Beachy Head in connection with this but I have never been.
Very poignant. I didn't realise they have quite so many memorials though I know they have a lot of jumpers. That walk would be impossible for Nigel as he gets urges to jump of cliffs and can't go near the edge! I wonder how people feel on the way down - panic or inner peace...
Your shot shows how much dispear soneone must feel to jump down those cliffs, I'm afraid of heights and would be seen near the spot to too your photo Its very sad
Such a sad background, but a beautiful picture. It must be super high for the lighthouse to look so small. So hard to imagine someone desperate enough to jump.
I think I would not like to go.
( reasons I like to stay private)
I understand, Ferry, it's a bit private for me too - never thought of jumping off a cliff but...............
Ok, one advantage of living in a country with wide open landscapes!
Pass! (I think you are a lateral thinker.)
There's quite a bit of erosion of cliffs around the south coast??!!
