The Southern African landscape is characterized by abundant shrubbery and thorny vegetation. The Sub tropical woodland that encompasses most of the Limpopo Provence of South Africa features acacia or thorn trees, a favorite for browsing giraffes and elephants. The giraffes graze on the upper canopy of leaves. But elephants use a more forceful approach- they simply topple the entire tree to get to the soft, succulent roots. As we drove off road through the bush, we saw a huge acacia tree keel over, victim of the trampling herd.
Beautiful sunset shot with the silhouette of this dramatic acacia tree. They must have pretty shallow roots to topple over so easily....or, maybe not, if you get pushed by an elephant! ;-))
