Black shutters, window boxes full of Spring flowers and yellow hydrants were some of the details I noticed on my carriage tour of the city of Charleston.
The gentle sway of the carriage reminded me of slower, gentler times. Before the ride, a random selection of one of the approved routes is made by picking a colored ball from a machine. Then a metal tag is placed at the back of the carriage to indicate its route. This is done to regulate the spread of carriages throughout the city since the horses and mule teams share the streets with buses and passenger cars. We were fortunate to get route1 which took us through the historic Battery district along the waterfront.
