It has finally rained here - and the dry dam has water in it. And it has dozens of orange and green small tree frogs - which we have never seen here before! We have no idea where they have come from and why there are so many. They are incredibly noisy and extremely agile. I'm afraid my camera was not good enough to make a very sharp video but this will give you some idea of what they were like.
@fbailey Hi FB - we have assumed that the throat was just to make that noisy mating call. But it could have other uses too - it's such a standout feature. It's a shame my camera couldn't do a better job on the video sections - they were incredible to watch hopping and scrambling around - chasing each other and falling off the reeds. And croaking the whole time! Thanks for having a look. Cheers :)
@taffy HI Taffy - they are so cute - it's a shame my camera couldn't do a better job on the video sections. I'll have to play with it and see if it can be improved in any way. Seeing them reminded me of your Beaver Island frogs. :)
Whoa- how crazy! We have a similar "infestation" of frogs in the Spring during mating season. The video is fine- it really gives us a good feel on how loud they are and their activity. I have a friend who would love this!
@olivetreeann Hi Ann - thanks for your feedback on the video - this one was already too noisy to have another bash at the narration LOL And strangely enough the frogs all disappeared the next day. There were 2 dead ones floating in the water but all of the others had gone as mysteriously as they appeared! :)
That is awesome! Like a huge bubblegum blowing competition full of bravado and "my noise is bigger than your noise!" Absolutely brilliant to see them in action, well done.
@casablanca Hi Casablanca - "bubblegum blowing"" - such a good description of what they were doing. :) And there was indeed a lot of action - but strangely enough, after two nights and one day they were all gone - They turned up all together - then all disappeared altogether. So weird! I'm really pleased you liked them!! Thanks again. Cheers Rob
