The old and the new... by robz

The old and the new...

The Gold Coast stretches along about 50km of beach front. I can remember when the first high-rise went up - it was controversial and quite ugly.
The city is now pretty much a continuous stretch of beachside high-rise buildings. The new go up beside the old- the contrasts are everywhere.
Many places around the globe have suffered the same fate of high rise buildings in designs people don’t naturally take to. Interesting shot.

Did they set aside any of the beach for open space or recreation? I like the shape of the building.

Interesting story. It happens almost everywhere, unfortunately. Nice architectural picture. Fav

I think it can be good if it's done well. Sometimes even when not. There are some fascinating places in London where 17th century churches and the like can be found squeezed in courtyards between 100-storey high rise blocks.

I think that is the case for many coastline areas- unless someone with foresight put building restrictions in place before the masses moved in. In some ways the contrast is interesting as in this shot where there are not too many buildings showing. But a long stretch of them by the ocean- not as interesting and may even be an eyesore. I guess it depends on who's looking! I do like the contrast in this shot, but confess I probably wouldn't like it if I lived there.

Interesting building. The table "no smoking" makes a capture.
