It started snowing here at 9 o'clock this morning and it hasn't stopped. It must be cold as I don't think I've ever seen a fieldfare in the garden before. I was surprised and delighted to see this one sitting in our lilac tree with a blackbird. I hope he/she becomes a regular visitor. This was taken through the kitchen window and there has been a constant flurry of activity all day. I have to put food out in different places for different birds as they don't always get on so well together. The shy birds tend to keep away from the squabbling starlings and the chaffinches just seem to be everywhere. It's all birds in my pics together and as usual SOOC
Yes we have just got fieldfares. They seem to be looking for berries and apples still hanging on trees. They seem shy and steer clear of the starlings. Lovely capture of this beautiful plump little chap
Fabulous job - every feather is clear. I need to get more fat balls pronto but I have found a use for the fancy berry/apple/meal worm mix I bought - it's been ignored all winter but I've put in on the ground for blackbirds and they are very pleased.
@judithg Oh blackbirds love their special mix and you will be greatly rewarded with their presence Judith. I had 7 or 8 blackbirds in the garden today and I've run out of grotty apples to give them but I do put out their favourite mix as well as dried fruit such as raisins, sultanas or mixed fruit. I buy the basic versions which are cheaper but they are getting more expensive now and with the snow on the ground, I have been throwing them out on the cleared ground outside our front door with a dish of water.
