Red-necked Rooster by salza

Red-necked Rooster

I just love the look of this rooster. To me he has the front end of a turkey and the rear end of a normal rooster.

A fine looking bird

Beautiful tail feathers, great colours, but hasn't he been in a fight?

@lynnilou No, this is how he is supposed to look. The female also has the bare red neck, but her body feathers are shorter and predominately black. I was unable to get pics of her as she is sitting on eggs and I didn't want to disturb her.

Good greaf...

@salza Thanks for that!

He is a funny fellow. Does he change the colour of his neck skin like a turkey does? Turkeys pump the blood up into their Wattle making it brilliant red but can also reduce the flow until the wattle is almost white.

I bet this was a hard shot to take - nice catch :)

...or maybe some vulture-genes somewhere?!

What an ugly creature! But strangely fascinating! Incredible colours.

yes, real vulture look to his head. I thought I'd seen most varieties of chickens but this one is totally new to me. I worked for someone who had 40 bantams all different, and I knew the farm she'd bought them from

never seen anything like this before. he seems to be a cross between a turkey and a chicken. good for him he's still alive, some of his 'normal' looking comrades are in the deep fryer at KFC! :-D excellent capture, sally.
