Ake ake tree by sandradavies

Ake ake tree

Land was cleared for farming and once the canopy was opened the Akeake was hardy enough to withstand the sea air, strong coastal island winds and sand storms.
Think I got a shot of that tree when we went.. we had resonable weather as well.. an amazing place .. Did you go to Pitt Is aswell..
Great how thise Ake ake trees are so resilient..

@julzmaioro Oh Julie removing the bush for farming created great soil but the environment is too harsh to grow little more than the ake ake and karaka tree. It was great to see the fenced off areas and conservation happening there and on Pitt Island.

@dide Yes many of these sit alone and still survive the harsh environment
@777margo Thanks Margo
@elisasaeter Low light was challenging, I'm not experienced enough to know how to make adjustments in the camera.
@fr1da The harsh environment, sandy peat soil seems to suit. The Karaka and akeake are the only two everywhere growing away from the wind.
