Northland was a series of learning curves. I was naïve to how the rain and weather impacted tracks and the decisions I made. After 11 days, a lockdown froze everything, I then had to exit and relocate.
I travelled around the lockdown area and started again in Taumarunui in light rain and walked 30km from my accommodation to Owhango. The weather did not improve and closed the central North Island tracks for novices like me. I found my way to National Park, everything in my pack was wet and I found this furnace room at the YHA where I waited out the storm and dried everything.
