It is early afternoon after a night of gusty wind and heavy rain. It is sunny outside, no wind with the barometer sitting at 972hPa so we are in the centre of a large system. I'm not sure how low the air pressure went during the night.
Feeling lucky and sheltered in the Bay of Plenty the cyclone Gabrielle passed by us but has left many isolated communities and many under water in the North Island. The South Island is expected to get the brunt next, yet the centre has veered off out to sea.
