Here is the story: our next stop after the Eagle’s Nest was the lovely lakeside village and also lake, called Königssee. After some free time to go round the many souvenir shops and to have a midday snack we boarded one of the tourist boats for a trip around this lovely lake which is similar to a fjord. When we were half way on our trip, the boat was stopped so that a trumpeter among the crew could play a trumpet to demonstrate the echo created by the high mountains. And this is my shot to show it off.
The Königssee is a natural lake - Germany's third deepest lake - and, similar to a fjord, it is surrounded by steeply rising flanks of mountains up to 2,700 m (8,900 ft). The lake is noted for its clear water and is advertised as the cleanest lake in Germany. For this reason, only electric-powered passenger ships, rowing, and pedal boats have been permitted on the lake since 1909. The lake's position surrounded by sheer rock walls creates an echo known for its clarity. On boat tours, it has become traditional to stop and play a flugelhorn or trumpet. The trumpeter plays along with the returning sounds so it sounds like as many as seven players. To be honest, I either was too much absorbed with taking pictures or going deaf because the echoes weren’t sharp as I had expected them to be.
Thank you so much for your views, comments, and FAV’s. They are very much appreciated.
like how you did you shot and am astounded by the clarity of the water. the mountains are stunning. think it is amazing they were aware back in 1909 to restrict the types of boats on the water. wish more areas would be more concerned about their waterways.
That's a creative way to remember this part of your trip. And here I thought you were going to say your neighbor on the cruise was a trumpeter and you wished he would stop practicing off the balcony!
