Once upon a time, when I was a little girl, friends of my mum and dad lived in the cottage on the left of this picture. They were caretakers / gardeners of a large summer house & conference centre and the entrance to it was through this gate. I remember the gardens quite clearly, there were lovely grassy slopes and my sister and I used to love rolling down the slopes. We would peep through the windows to see inside the main building but I don't think we were ever inside.
Our friends moved away when I was about 7 and the centre was destroyed by fire not long after. I'd so love to walk down that drive again. I think there are two or three houses in the grounds now.
Three good things
1. A lovely sunny Sunday after a very wet Saturday
2. Lovely long walk along familiar roads
3. Nice to see that old buildings are being well maintained and some new ones built which all fit into the area very nicely!
It doesn't say private on the gate.....I would have a sneak in...I'm sure nobody could be cross with you Sallie....just give them a big smile & pretend you are lost! Nice remembering!
They might even let you if you ask - you won't know till you try. I once did that - knocked at the door of the house we used to live in, in Canada. The lady was pleased to see us and invited us inside! I was surprised to see that the Holly Hobby wallpaper we'd put up in our daughter's room ten years before was still there!
