Went in to Tain Museum today and was delighted to find a rather special silver spade!
It's engraving says:
Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth
Presented to Provost William Fraser and Mrs Fraser on planting commemorative trees at Cromartie Gardens Tain
12 May 1937
One of them is in Mum and Dad's garden!
(The copper beech that you may have seen before! http://365project.org/sarah19/365/2011-05-28 and again today http://365project.org/sarah19/so-much-more/2012-08-09)
The lady at the museum - Isma Munro - was very chatty but I think I was telling her as much about Tain and what was in the museum as she was able to tell me! That must make me history!! She had grown up in Braemar so we had Aberdeenshire - and lots more - in common.
It's a wonderful historic spade. I always find it amusing when some royal dignitary puts a previously prepared spadeful of earth into a hole and is declared to have 'planted' the tree!
