when we visited Pluscarden Abbey at the weekend we spent just a few minutes in this public part of the building as they were about to have a service for the residents. The bell ringer came out and I hope he didn't mind me taking this one.
What a lovely sound........after a week of school bells I think we should get rid of them altogether and everyone would get on a lot better! At my primary school when I was little the janitor rang the bell.....by pulling the rope and the bell in the tower had a lovely sound.......so much better than electric ones!!!
Three good things
1. Friday feeling......how did a week pass so quickly?
2. Appointment at the optician's after school.....apart from having drops in to dilate my pupils for one of the tests it was all good. My distance glasses for driving are nearly 10 years old and still just what I need. And the slightly adjusted prescription for reading when I have a lot to do on computer are just fine too!!! And the test the drops were for.......my eyes are great!! Very thankful!
3. A quiet evening at home....plan B really but eyes were a bit odd and I didn't want to drive......so early to bed and early to rise and I'll get on the road to see Mum and Dad and sister and family!
This is my favourite part of the abbey. I once sat here for a very long time in the quietness. I also went into the side chancel to attend a service. A timeless experience. This captures the monastic atmosphere.
