Experimenting

Looking after the office again for 3 days. My wonderful photobuddy came in to visit me with the DIY flash modifiers she has made so I could try out which style I liked the best. Had fun using her as a model for me to experiment with my flash and how not to get bad reflections off the specs
No reflections off the specs, and great lighting on the model even though she's in front of a window...Well done!

Excellent! what was your lighting strategy here? She looks like she is slightly angled. Alan and I took photos at my cousin’s wedding a couple weeks ago and we were running into that quite a bit. Sometimes we would ask them to lower their chin a tiny bit and that seemed to help.

Did you use flash here?

@beckyk365 thanks Becky. Yes I did angle her slightly for 2 reasons. Firstly when I had shot her square on it looked like a mug shot, and also made her appear wide. Secondly having her angled slightly helped deal with reflections on the spectacles. I used my flash for fill light because of course it was bright outside and she was facing away from the light. I can only use flash on camera as I have an entry level Canon that doesn't support off camera flash, unfortunately. Also the room we were in doesn't have any ceilings to bounce the flash from, so I used a homemade flash modifier to diffuse the light. It is simply a strip of transparent shelf lining with some velcro glued onto each end. Fold the transparent material over the top of the flash, and velcro it to itself to keep in place over the flash. See this link http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Gary-Fong-Lightsphere/
