Every Day's a Swimming Day

Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day - every day has been hot enough to swim. One of Maddy's gifts from me was swimming goggles which she absolutely loves. Asks for them to swim with and then doesn't want to take them off after we finish swimming. I was told goggles were bad for them at this age and would impair their water confidence, but it has done the opposite for Maddy. She is now wanting us to go under water so she can lie on the water supported by her puddle jumper and put her face in the water blowing bubbles while she watches the adult beneath her through the goggles. She is becoming very good at holding her breath blowing bubbles into the water.
Lovely, happy scene. I can’t imagine why they would say goggles would impair their confidence? I’m with Maddy, I’m much more confident with goggles!

@narayani The instructor who was telling me that said the kids become too reliant on things like goggles and should learn to cope with water getting in their eyes ... but I bought the goggles anyway! I bought the best? (most expensive) kiddy ones I could find as I still remember the first time learning to snorkel as an adult when I got married and Don took me on a wonderful holiday with an underwater trail. We bought a cheap mask and it didn't seal properly around my face so it filled up with water and made everything much worse. It was only when I had a properly fitting mask that I could stand to have it on and then the underwater trail was the most amazing experience for me.
