I'm so grateful to have my little 2 plate gas burner to prepare basic hot food and tea or coffee during these long stretches of rolling blackouts. After power off this morning 8am-10:30am, it is off again right now, this evening, from 4pm - 8:30pm. I use oil filled storm lantern for light as I feel it is safer than an open candle flame, and cheaper than torch batteries
Today for the first time loadshedding does not bother us anymore Desi. We just had a battery pack built in that covers almost everthing including the fridge and freezer. It is a total new lifestyle and the only way to go, as it will be getting worse. I like the shot of your lovely setup.
@narayani Loadshedding has already been going on for more than a decade, gradually getting worse and worse until now it has become critical and there is a danger of total grid collapse. I don't see an end to it any time soon.
@pattyblue Yes we do get ample notice usually. We have an app we can download onto our smartphones called Eskom Se Push or ESP which pushes notifications to us. So I can usually see what is planned for the day, although sometimes we get caught out at the last minute.
@ludwigsdiana Thanks Diana. I would love to get my own installation one day but have had too many other expenses just lately to be able to afford it yet so I will just have to try and work around it a bit longer
Your photo feels so cozy! Although I’m not sure you’re feeling that right now. That evening timeframe must be so inconvenient. I can’t imagine having a family and dealing with that.
