Retreating ice by shepherdman

Retreating ice

There was slight frost this morning, just enough to surface puddles with a fragile skin of thin ice. In grassy hollows the stems provided a nucleus for ice to grow from and to retreat back to as daylight warmed the air above it, leaving this delicate pattern. Snow was falling by the time that I took the dogs for an early afternoon walk before going to work, small hard flakes driven by a strong wind, quickly covering the wet ground and coating the dog’s fur in white. By the time that I returned from work in the early hours, the snow had turned to veils of rain blowing past the street-lights as the temperature gradually crept up.
Beautifully observed and shot. Superb focus I can only envy!!
