A dramatic photograph from the Hill – the quarry is on fire! Well actually, one of the quarry buildings caught fire. I was out with the dogs in the fields behind our home on this particular evening when I saw dense smoke from behind the Hill. We changed our route and headed up the Hill to investigate, joining quite a few locals who were equally curious. The fire brigade were already on site when I arrived, but more were arriving. We have since found out that the building was used for grading stone into different sizes, and had not been used for a while – thanks to the recession operations at the quarry have been scaled back. No-one was hurt, and the quarry is still operating normally (we still feel the blasts at our house if we happen to be at home!)
